Trout Rebukes Mariners Pitchers' Control After HBP
Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout exited Sunday's game against the Seattle Mariners after a 94 mph fastball from Casey Legumina struck his wrist in the eighth inning. X-rays returned negative, and manager Kurt Suzuki listed the 11-time All-Star as day-to-day. Trout criticized the Mariners' tendency to work inside without sufficient command.
Trout, hit by a pitch for the second time in the series after Bryan Woo struck him Friday, voiced frustration postgame. "We know where they're trying to get me out, fastballs up and in, so it's just frustrating," Trout said, via MLB.com. "You know, if you can't control it up there, you shouldn't do it. So it is what it is."
Suzuki dismissed suggestions of escalating tensions between the American League West rivals. "Balls slip," the first-year manager said. "It's baseball. Like I said the other night, it's part of the game. Obviously, you don't want him to get hit. Or see Mike get hurt. But at the same time, you understand, I was a catcher, that they’re trying to get guys out."
The Angels rallied for an 8-7 victory in 11 innings at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, on April 5, 2026. Trout, a three-time MVP, has battled injuries since 2021, playing more than 100 games in a season only twice and reaching 130 games once, last year. Through 10 games this season, he bats .212 with two home runs and three RBI.
