Unbeaten Nebraska Puts No. 1 Ranking on Line Against Ohio State
Top-ranked Nebraska hosts Ohio State on Saturday night at Bob Devaney Sports Center, a day after the Cornhuskers swept Rutgers to open Big Ten play. Nebraska enters unbeaten at 11-0, while Ohio State arrives at 8-3.
Nebraska holds the No. 1 spot in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, receiving 48 first-place votes. It marks the 128th week the program has sat atop the poll, the most of any team in the poll's history. Nebraska has not dropped a match this season and ranks among the national leaders in several statistical categories. The Huskers are hitting .318 as a team, seventh nationally, while holding opponents to a .081 hitting percentage, the best mark in the country. They also rank second in the Big Ten and ninth nationally in blocks per set at 2.89, and their +.237 hit margin leads all of Division I. Nebraska has recorded 74 service aces through 11 matches, a pace that would set a program record. Nebraska leads the all-time series against Ohio State 21-10 and has won the last three meetings between the two programs.
The match is part of a broader Big Ten volleyball slate that includes appearances on FOX, FS1 and BTN throughout the season, along with additional matches on B1G+. The Big Ten Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 20-25 at Fishers Event Center in Fishers, Indiana, with the championship match set for Nov. 25 should Nebraska advance that far.
